Sir,

Please, please, please be very, very, very careful.

The VAST majority of internet "relationships" are perpetrated by professional scam artists against lonely foreign men.

Warning signs almost always relate to money.

"I need money to finish my education."

"My father/mother/etc is sick and needs an operation. Send money."

"There is some problem with the paperwork. Send more money."

The list goes on and so do the excuses to send more money.

THIS IS THE RULE NOT THE EXCEPTION.

If she seems to want nothing from you other than YOU, you have a chance. If she has been requesting money, run away or it will lead to heartbreak and financial ruin.

My advice: go to the Philippines and stay around her for at least a month. Meet her friends, check out her lifestyle. Ask to drop in and meet he old co-workers. If she is legit, she will be happy to show you off. Study up on nursing and ask a few intelligent nurse-related questions that you already know the answer to. Do this in person, not on the internet where she can look it up.

You can pay for everything. The PI isn't expensive. Look for any kind of request or expense that would seem expensive in the States. Don't invest in pig or fish farms no matter how close the relatives are.

I hope you get the idea.

Be very sure of what you are getting into. The "divorce" is a scary warning sign to me as there is no divorce in the PI.

After 15 years of going to the PI 3 to 4 times a year, I have seen a lot of tragedy that started just like this.

Be careful.

Check with the US Embassy in Manila to determine whether it would be more efficient to marry your fiancee in the Philippines and apply for a K-3 visa, or remain engaged and apply for a K-1 visa. Either method is acceptable.

well, 1st of all congratulations! everything sounds ok, although i might have to ask you to look into the circumstances regarding her "divorce." You see, there is no divorce law in the philippines. The closest to it would be a legal separation/annulment granted by the courts. If she is a Catholic and she got married in church, it's a very rare thing to be granted a divorce (in this country)by the Church, which has to come all the way from the Vatican. If you mean that she has been legally separated from her husband, there is no problem with a civil wedding, but a Church wedding may not be possible.
