Clinical Depression Can Interfere in your Marriage
When you intertwine your life with another person it is no longer to live by the old saying, whats mine is mine and whats theirs is theirs. You are now considered one, and although you may not want to handle what your spouse is going through it is not a good idea to try and ignore it, simply because it is not your problem. The more you try to evade the problem the bigger it will become, and soon it will be the two of you that are feeling depressed, instead of just your spouse.
Depression and other mental health issues are not a laughing matter and need to be addressed. Clinically speaking depression is an illness and should be treated as seriously as if your spouse was having a severe illness like uncontrolled vomiting or loss of appetite or breath.
The one thing about depression that makes it more difficult to deal with is that cheer-up attitude, people who are truly depressed cant just cheer up. Being depressed is a physical and an emotional issue and one that doesn’t just go away. When you begin to notice overall changes in your spouses outlook on life, sleeping and eating patterns, and other behaviors, you may want to mention it to your spouse, even though initially they may also blow off these issues as no big deal. Then over time they may begin to get worse. It may be a good idea to get a depression checklist off the internet, so that they can see with their own eyes the fact that this might be what they are experiencing.
The key is that they need help and if they don’t get the care that they need, this may seriously affect your mental state as well. These days there are millions of Americans who are experiencing this disease, and they need to know that they are not alone.
Not all marriage problems come from depression of one or both partners, however you would be surprised as to how many truly do. Be sure to be aware of your spouse and yourself when it comes to depression because it may not only be affecting the individual but the environment in which you live. More deadly then mold a marriage can be snuffed out by depression alone.
